The Department of Mechanical engineering at Modern College of Engineering was established in the year 1999. The department started its four-year Bachelor’s program with an intake of 60 students. This number was later increased to 120 for the 2008-09 academic year and was further raised to 180 starting from the 2012-13 academic year. The Department also offers a two-year master's degree in Heat Power Engineering. Both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs have been approved by A.I.C.T.E., New Delhi, and are affiliated with Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU), Pune.

The department is equipped with 15 modern laboratories that include cutting-edge industry software. The department has highly qualified and experienced faculty with expertise in the areas of Design, Production, Manufacturing and Thermal Engineering.

To enhance initiative, creativity, talent, leadership, and proficiency in adopting new technologies, we actively encourage our students to engage in national events such as SAE BAJA, SUPRA, Go-kart, and Aero Design. The department has active student’s chapters of professional bodies like SAE, ASME, ISHRAE and ISTE.

To keep abreast of the technological trends, the department regularly organizes different seminars, workshops, and many other short-term courses. The department also conducts regular field visits to power stations, companies, and factories to offer students practical insights into power generation, air conditioning, automobile engineering, gear manufacturing, press tool and jig design, metrology, and other relevant areas.

The department has built significant industry goodwill through its consistent collaboration with industry partners, enabling the mutual exchange of academic and industry experiences. The Mechanical Engineering Department aims to forge stronger ties with local and regional industries while enhancing its visibility and reputation within the wider academic community. Final Year students are carrying out their engineering projects at several prominent companies, including KOEL, TATA MOTORS, BEHR, KBL, JOHN DEERE, GODREJ, and ARAI, among others.
